How the score works
Every beach gets a single 0–100 score for right now. It blends five factors, then applies hard safety rules on top.
What goes into the score
Official flags, water quality, jellyfish and lifeguard presence.
Wave height and direction relative to exposure, plus sea temperature.
Feels-like temperature, wind, chance of rain and UV index.
Lifeguard, showers, toilets, accessibility, parking, transport, Blue Flag and distance.
How well the beach fits the chosen mode (family, dog, quiet, urban…).
Hard safety rules
- A red flag caps the score at 30 (bathing not recommended).
- Insufficient water quality caps it at 35.
- Heavy jellyfish presence caps it at 55.
- Thunderstorms or heavy rain apply a strong penalty.
- Waves above 1.2 m are strongly penalised for swimming.
- Wind over 35 km/h (or gusts over 50) is strongly penalised.
- No flag / no lifeguard adds a clear safety warning.
- An orange or red AEMET warning, or one for rain, thunderstorms or flooding over a river pool, caps the score at 30.
- Any other AEMET warning over the place: 8 points off.
- An active alert (wildfire, flooding…) over the beach or pool removes its score: it cannot be the recommendation and drops to the end of the list.
Right now the flag and jellyfish rules CANNOT apply: the official source (Ajuntament de València) has given no data since 38 d ago. While that lasts, no beach can be capped for a red flag or for jellyfish, and on each beach we say that we do not know.
Data freshness
We always show when each reading last refreshed and flag anything stale. We never present stale data as live.
Limitations
This app helps you choose a beach, but official lifeguard flags and local authorities always come first. Do not use this app for navigation or safety-critical decisions.
